Members of the First Baptist Church in Dorchester welcome you to our “radio play” of an abbreviated version of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. The congregation, who come from many places – including the U.S., the Caribbean, the South, and the continent of Africa, wanted to spread a little joy during this particularly challenging holiday season.
None of the congregations are professional actors but all have thrown themselves into their roles, in the process discovering that some have a natural affinity for bringing their characters to life. You will hear voices that echo the various countries and states from which we originate, creating a symphony of accents in this Christmas story that has been shared many times on stage and screen. You will also hear sound effects.
Deacon Karen Macnutt, whose original idea it was to put on the play, says, “I wanted to bring a bit of holiday cheer to this challenging season and to have the congregation do something together that everyone who wanted to could participate In and share with each other members of our extended community in Dorchester, the city of Boston, and beyond.” We had broad participation from the congregation including children, Deacons and even our First Lady, Wanda Gonsal.
Reverend Dana Gonsal, Pastor of First Baptist Church in Dorchester, says “Psalms 1333 reminds us how good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! Our church family is united and warm. We hope that you will please listen to this radio play that celebrates the Christmas spirit. You are also invited to come to our services held virtually every Sunday morning at 10:30a.m.”
The radio play is suited for all ages. It will be available beginning December 18 and run until January 21. It can be accessed from the homepage of First Baptist Church of Dorchester – www.fbcdorchester.com and on YouTube at: https://youtu.be/ZrFagxyqgxE.
Thank you for listening and Merry Christmas from First Baptist Church of Dorchester.
